Description : M'lefaat is a prehistoric site in northern Iraq , located 35 kilometers east of Mosul , dated to the pre-ceramic Neolithic period. It is one of the oldest permanent settlements in the region, testifying to the beginning of sedentarization in present-day northern Iraq. It includes two levels of occupation, made up of small circular constructions (about 5 m in diameter for the oldest level, around 7.5 m for the most recent) buried in adobe, and sometimes in stone, in which the he access had to be through the roof, except in one case. The houses have small benches arranged in their center or on their sides. These constructions are arranged around a central space in beaten earth where there were domestic installations: fireplaces, millstones, mortars.
